Furthermore, the website provides information crucial before visiting the market. The history of the market

During the beginning of the Great Depression, farmers’ wives looked for a new way to sell farm goods to support their families. Local women in home demonstration clubs, also known as homemakers clubs, were an organization of female farmers who received training in home economics sponsered by the government. The organization gained support from the University of Maryland Extension Service and the club council to form the market. The Montgomery Farm Woman’s Cooperative Market officially opened on February 4, 1932. Advertisements of the produce that was being sold spread throughout Washington, DC and the metropolitan area. From then to now, the market continues to grow by customers and vendors alike.
